Senior Writer

We are looking for a Senior Copywriter to join our team at Hatch in San Francisco. A Senior Writer will partner with Strategy and Account Management to craft the brand and then work closely with Design Directors and the Creative Director to develop concepts and breakthrough brand stories. You’ll bring a passion for storytelling and understanding of the nuances of working with businesses at various stages of growth. You’re excited about working across a variety of categories and have the ability to adapt your style and voice with ease.


What you’ll do:

  • Work with Design Directors and Designers to develop concepts and work based on our client’s business needs and realities. Your ideas should spark design and the design should spark your ideas. Collaboration is key.
  • Partner closely with Strategy and Account to develop compelling brand positionings
  • Craft copy for everything from strategy to manifestos, to OOH, to packaging,
    to social posts
  • Interact with clients, understanding their vision and needs and clearly communicating ideas
  • Contribute across multiple projects, adapting style and tone based
    on audience, channel, and industry
  • Help build out the writing capability within the agency- currently it’s a purely freelance model
  • Manage freelance writers with the Design Director
  • Mentor and motivate agency team and provide thoughtful and engaging feedback that encourages professional development and team growth
  • Build strong relationships with clients that foster trust, serving as a creative expert
  • Contribute thought leadership for internal marketing efforts and profile-building initiatives that grow Hatch’s reputation
  • Engage with clients on a strategic level and partner with Client Directors to facilitate a seamless process


Skills and qualities we look for:

  • 5+ years of experience at an ad agency
  • Strong portfolio of work of successful campaign work for a range of audiences, channels and industries
  • Ability to brainstorm, develop and execute concepts & copy
  • Experience naming brands, sublines and products
  • Experience working with CPG, startup and/or technology brands
  • Knows how to successfully partner with designers and art directors to develop creative ideas that break through
  • Strong attention to detail, and impeccable grammar
  • Strategically-minded, and can quickly translate a brief into an idea
  • An entrepreneurial spirit-you should be curious, free thinking and exude optimism and energy
