We are looking for a strategic rockstar with the heart of a hunter to lead our business development and marketing functions. We need someone who has solid strategic expertise to be able to understand and talk to our clients’ business challenges and also the creative chops to showcase how we are uniquely qualified to solve those problems with a range of creative solutions. In this role you will be the first Hatch partner most of our clients experience and need to be able to bring your A-game with both talking to the clients’ challenges and understanding how we at Hatch can help-and of course do both of those with passion and charisma.

As Director of Business Development and Marketing you need to believe in the work we do and showcase a firm understanding of the overall creative ecosystem. You will be working with the agency leaders on evaluating which clients we should pursue, which referrals are a best fit and be a resource responding to other inquiries that aren’t a fit for Hatch. You will confidently communicate our company vision and philosophy as well as exhibit and understanding of the power of emotionally compelling branding to the larger community of founders, CMOs, and investors, and build deep relationships with key leaders- whether we take on the business challenge or choose to diplomatically pass.

You’ll manage the business development process from initial contact through close. Coordinating agency resources will be key to assembling any pitch materials and developing the process and budget. You will be supported by a marketing associate but at the end of the day, you are responsible for closing the deal and play a large role in helping us make our bottom line.

To keep our pipeline strong, you will also be responsible for Hatch’s external profile. You will help us tell Hatch’s story (and more importantly keeping it updated) across various channels, including website, social media and industry events. You will need to drive the agency team and help figure out which completed projects best build the story and how to best utilize those projects to help raise our profile.

The Marketing and Business Dev Director is a key part of Hatch’s senior agency team and reports to the Executive Director.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan, manage, and direct the business development function.
  • Manage responding to incoming prospects and sourcing new clients in way that looks beyond simply the initial ask and sets the foundation of trust that is core to the way we work at Hatch.
  • Research and respond to all incoming unsolicited prospects, determining if the prospect fits Hatch’s growth strategy.
  • Develops responses to requests for proposals (RFP’s) including formulating marketing strategies to address challenges of key prospects and all relevant pricing and timelines.
  • Prepare pitch presentations in conjunction with account management, creative team members, and senior management.
  • Keep our pipeline strong, develop and maintain a prime prospect list that includes qualified prospects from a variety of different industries.
  • Create opportunities to pitch new accounts that fit into the firm’s growth strategy.
  • Work with Legal to ensure MSA’s are in place and changes are negotiated.
  • Be creative, smart, have fun, and be a champion of a positive and a creatively collaborative environment.

.

Skills and qualities we look for:

  • Active listening skills- a must to understand the challenge and set the stage for partnership and trust.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
  • Independent go getter drive with a hunger to close the deal.
  • Multi-tasking ability to manage a high volume of incoming calls along with seeking out major new prospects.
  • Passion for compelling creative and super smart strategy.
  • Leadership skills in developing other team member’s business development and marketing skills.
  • Ability to work under stress of deadlines and appreciate and support others working under deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and tracking skills for maintaining prospect lists and status.
  • Solid understanding of business development best practices.
  • Track record of obtaining new business and/or successfully negotiating client retainer agreements.
